Detect suspicion, manage the reporting clock, and file defensible STRs under Nigeria's current AML/CFT framework.

1h 45m 15 lessons 5 sections

What you'll learn

Recognise reportable suspicion, manage the applicable reporting clock, prepare stronger STR narratives, avoid tipping off, and build an auditable escalation process.

About this course

Suspicious transaction reporting is one of the most time-sensitive obligations in Nigerian AML/CFT compliance. This course shows compliance officers, operations teams, relationship managers and regulated businesses how to move from an alert or unusual customer behaviour to a documented decision and, where required, a Suspicious Transaction Report to the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.

The course is grounded in the Money Laundering (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, current NFIU guidance and the CBN AML/CFT/CPF framework. It focuses especially on the 24-hour reporting requirement, the internal examination process used by financial institutions, the difference between STRs and other regulatory reports, evidence quality, confidentiality, and what happens after filing.

The content is practical rather than purely legal. Learners work through Nigerian banking, fintech, POS, bureau de change, real estate and corporate-account examples and practise the same judgement skills expected in AML operations. It also supports broader professional development for learners preparing for roles or certifications such as CAMS, while keeping Nigerian law and NFIU procedure as the controlling local frame.
