Terms of Service

Last updated 24 August 2026

The agreement between you and Joche Academy. Written to be read, not to be survived.

1. What you are agreeing to

By registering, signing in or using Joche Academy in any way, you agree to these terms, to our privacy policy and to our cookie policy. If you do not agree with them, stop using the platform.

Joche Academy is an online academy. Learners take free and paid courses, some taught live on a schedule and some at their own pace; instructors apply, are reviewed, and publish courses; and organisations enrol teams. We provide the platform, the classroom and the certificate. The teaching is done by instructors, and section 9 sets out what each of us is responsible for.

2. Your account

You need an account to enrol. Keep your sign-in details to yourself and tell us if you think someone else has them. One account is one person: sharing it to give several people access to a course you bought once is the one thing that will get an account closed without much discussion.

If your account was created when we moved from our previous WordPress site, it exists because you already had one with us. Your password was not carried over, so use "Forgot password" the first time you sign in.

3. Enrolment and access

Buying a course outright gives you access to it for as long as we run it, including updates the instructor makes. If we ever have to retire a course, we will tell enrolled students first and give you a way to finish or a refund.

Access that comes with a subscription lasts as long as the subscription does. When a plan ends, courses you only had through that plan close again. Courses you bought outright are not affected.

What you are buying is a personal licence to watch, read and use the course. It is yours and not transferable, and it does not make the material yours: you may not record, download and repost, resell, or share a course with people who have not enrolled. The instructor keeps ownership of what they made. Sharing paid material outside the platform is the kind of thing that ends an account and, at scale, ends up with lawyers.

4. Prices and payment

Prices are in naira and include any tax that applies. Our payment provider takes the payment; we never see your card details.

The price on a course page is what you will normally pay, but the final amount is always worked out on our server at the moment you check out. That is where a discount you are entitled to gets applied, including the 10% that Pro members get on one-off course purchases, and where a coupon is checked and applied.

Prices, plans and promotions can change. A change never alters what you have already paid: a course you bought stays bought, and a plan keeps its price for the period you have paid for. If a payment fails or is charged back, the access it paid for can be closed until it is settled.

5. Subscriptions

Subscriptions renew automatically until you cancel. You can cancel whenever you like from your settings.

Two things about cancelling are worth knowing in advance. Cancelling does not end your access immediately: you keep the plan until the end of the period you have already paid for, and we do not refund the unused part. Switching plans does not split a period: the plan you are on runs to the end of its period, and you then check out on the new plan yourself. We stop the old plan renewing and record what you chose, but nothing charges you automatically, so if you do not come back and check out you will simply have no plan. You are never charged twice for the same month, and you are never credited for the old one either.

If a renewal payment fails we will email you. Access continues briefly while we retry, and ends if the payment cannot be taken.

6. Refunds

A membership carries a 3-day money-back guarantee. Tell us within three days of a payment and we return it in full, and the plan ends at that point. After those three days we do not refund the rest of the period, but you can cancel whenever you like and you keep what you paid for until the period ends.

A course bought on its own is refundable until you start it. Ask before you begin and we return the payment. Once a course has been started it is not refundable, because at that point you have had what you paid for.

"Started" means what you would expect it to mean. For a course you work through on your own, it is opening the first lesson. For a live class, it is the first session going ahead: if you ask before that session runs, it has not started, whenever you bought it.

Two things sit outside that rule. If a technical fault on our side stops you reaching a course you have paid for and we cannot put it right, we refund it whether you started it or not. And if we retire a course while you are part-way through, section 3 applies: we give you a way to finish or your money back.

If we grant a refund on a course: your access to that course ends, the money is returned to the method you paid with, which usually takes a few working days, and the instructor's share of that sale is reversed.

Free courses have nothing to refund. You can leave one whenever you like.

7. Acceptable use

Do not download, copy, re-upload or resell course material. Do not share your account. Do not harass other members, in public or in direct messages, and do not use the community to advertise.

If someone is behaving badly towards you here, tell us at support@jocheacademy.com and we will deal with it.

Do not claim a certificate you did not earn, or alter one. Certificates can be checked by anyone, which makes this easy to catch and pointless to attempt.

8. Content you post

What you write in the community stays yours. By posting it here you let us show it on the platform. We can remove anything that breaks these terms.

Posts, comments and reactions are visible to other signed-in members and count towards the community leaderboard. Direct messages are between you and the person you sent them to.

9. Teaching on Joche

Your course stays yours. You give us the right to host it, show it and market it while it is published here.

Applying to teach means telling us the truth about your experience and what you are qualified to teach, because that is what we approve you on. Once you are teaching, the work has to be your own and not copied from somebody else, you answer your students within a reasonable time, and you keep the material current when the thing you are teaching changes.

Instructors keep 80% of the revenue on their courses and the academy keeps 20%, which pays for hosting, the platform, marketing and support. Your exact share is shown in your instructor dashboard. You request a payout when you want to be paid, and we pay it to the bank account you gave us. If a student is refunded, the share you earned on that sale is reversed.

Before a payout we may ask you to confirm your identity and your bank details, and you are responsible for your own tax on what you earn. We can hold a payout that is tied to payments which are disputed, charged back, or look fraudulent, for as long as it takes to work out what happened.

Courses are reviewed before they go on sale. We can decline one, or remove one later, if it is misleading, not yours to sell, or not good enough for people to pay for. If a published course is removed, students already enrolled keep access unless the reason makes that impossible.

If you stop teaching here, tell us and we will agree what happens to students who are part-way through.

10. Certificates

Finishing a course earns you a certificate, which means you completed the work, including passing any quizzes and assignments the course requires. Our certificates are not an accredited qualification unless the course says otherwise.

Certificates are verifiable by anyone holding the number, without signing in, and verification shows your name, the course and the date. That is what makes the certificate worth something to an employer, and it is a consequence of earning one.

11. The AI concierge

The chat widget is answered by an AI, not a person, and it can be wrong. Nothing it says changes these terms or what you are owed. What you type into it is sent to an external AI provider to produce a reply, as described in our privacy policy, and you can ask for a human at any point.

12. Suspension and closing an account

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms. Except where the breach is serious or ongoing, we will tell you why and give you a chance to put it right.

If we close your account for a breach, we do not refund unused subscription time. You can close your own account at any time from your settings; what happens to your data is set out in the privacy policy.

13. The services we sit on top of

Parts of the platform run on other companies' services: payments, video hosting and playback, live classes on Zoom, and email. Using those parts means their terms apply to that part too. We choose them, we can change them, and section 14 covers what happens when one of them has a bad day.

14. Liability

We provide the platform as it is, and we work hard to keep it running. We are not liable for things genuinely outside our control, such as an outage at our payment provider or our hosting provider.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including for death, personal injury, or fraud.

15. If something goes wrong between us

Email support@jocheacademy.com first and give us a fair chance to fix it. Most things end there. If they do not, these terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the courts of Lagos State have jurisdiction.

16. Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Joche Academy after that means you accept the new version.
